She had made it up about halfway, her whole intentions set on making it to the very top branch--just so she could look out over the forest as if she were one of the flight-capable wolves or even a mikoe; the aviators of Archaic. May a day she found her silver eyes watching them take over the sky, owning it so well as they made effortless flaps through the air. She never envied them, but she always did wonder what exactly it would be like to be one of them. So free, so wild...
Mind bumping and feet taking careless steps, she looked then for her next target branch, calculating exactly how she was going to get higher in this mission. Most of the limbs upon this tree were large, and there was little to no harm to her as she stood completely where she was. Not one foot in front of the other, not all squished as if she were on a thin fence. In fact, she was standing as if she were on the ground; very comfortable and her feet as far apart as they normally would be.
Once her eyes spotted her next target branch, she moved her paws swiftly and leapt quickly from the one she was currently positioned on. The calculations within her head were already set into motion, and she knew exactly where her feet should touch for her to make this a good landing. As she judged the distance and the propelling of her body through the air, she made a really quick realization; she wasn’t going to make it. There was no fear in her mind, even though she was quite high up in the air. She would land and she would do it gracefully and take it with divine talent.
Just then, her front feet made contact with the branch she was aiming for. Hope shot up in her body and she quickly scrambled them forward. The fronts tipped forward and hooked around the opposite side of the branch. It was then that her stomach hit the tree, an audible thud as it touched, knocking the wind completely out of her. With her bottom feet dangling, she began to think of another plan to pull herself back up. If she didn’t have to start over, awesome: if she did, still awesome. It was all about the adventure, after all.
I could just try and pull really hard, just to get myself up. her head moved left, then to the right, peeking around for anything that would help her in any way. Or perhaps I could find some sort of footing to put my back paw in and just push myself up... she mused, trying to figure something out. Guess I’ll try the first option. With a deep breath, she prepared herself both mentally and physically. On her exhale, she tugged, putting as much pressure as she could into her tiny body. Her muscles pressed and she made it about an inch and a half up...
...and then her body gave out.
It fell limply and dangled again, her front claws extending out and scraping against the wood the held her up. She didn’t want to fall just yet; not until she reached her goal. With a heavy sigh, and her poker-face on, she maneuvered her head to look around her back feet, trying to find something that she could push herself up on. There was no luck, however, and for the moment, she was stuck there, hanging in the sky. Flipping her head around, she rested it in between her two front legs, her brain tossing ideas into a soup bowl that she turned ‘round and ‘round within her head. [/scrolly]

There was hardly a cloud in the sky as the sound of paws crashed on the ground. Rosalina was silent and quick in the water, but land was a different story. She felt awkward walking over leaves and twigs of the grove, often tripping over roots and rocks. She was much more used to the water, but today she wanted to walk, and breathe fresh air. As soon as she had walked into the grove, she knew it was the perfect place for just that, a walk.
She stopped for a moment, and raised her nose to the sky. A slight breeze gently ruffled her fur. "Mmmm..." Her mouth opened slightly, and her eyes closed. The wind in her face and her fur cleared her mind, and filled her body with a feeling of complete relaxation. Just as she was about to move, Rosalina heard something above her. Her ears perked forward, and she looked up.
As soon as she did, bark fell into her eyes. She let out a yelp as splinters fell into her delicate eyes. She tried rubbing them out with her paws, but they wouldn't budge. Whimpering, she rubbed her face on a nearby fern. Finally, she managed to get the splinters out of her eyes, and she looked up again, being careful this time. What she saw shocked her. There was a wolf, trying to pull themselves up onto a branch.
Rosalina stood there for a moment, not exactly what she was supposed to do now. The wolf seemed to be struggling, but she couldn't tell. She squinted her eyes, trying to make out the small figure, dangling high in tree. Did she...give up trying to get up?" she wondered out loud. Her mind raced for a moment, wondering what she should do. "Should I try to climb up and help them? No...that'd be impossible for me, I swim, not climb, I'd only kill myself..."
She stared up for a very long time, wondering what to say, what she should do, and trying to muster up the courage to even ask if they needed help. She swallowed hard, and her legs began to tremble. Her mouth opened in a nervous pant, and she finally decided she needed to do something. "Excuse me," she called, "but...do you need any help?"

It had been a few minutes now, and luckily her muscles hadn’t begun to ache from holding. It must have been the way she was positioned, for it didn’t put any strain on her yet, and it could have been just the slightest bit comfortable. She knew that if she relaxed, though, that her front feet would completely lose their grip and she would fall all the way to the forest floor. If that were to happen, with the position she were in, she wouldn’t be able to land gracefully on her feet, but in fact very hard on her back; possibly even injure her spine.
She was, however, beginning to grow impatient with her situation.
Another deep inhale and she attempted once more to tug her thin body up onto the branch. Her back paws kicked at the air, trying to propel herself up while her front ones scraped at the bark, pulling with all their might. It failed again, however, and her body slumped down in agony and frustration. She exhaled deeply, finally releasing her breath after holding it for a moment. She felt as the timber fall to the ground from her attempt, smacking her bottom feet a little as they made their decent downward. It looked as if nothing would be helping her achieve her goal in climbing this tree today.
Until that yelp was sounded.
Flipping her head down so that she could look at the earth at an awkward position, she attempted to find the one who had cried out. She could see where the splinters had fallen, and where the wolf had previously stood, but where it had run off to she could not. It must have moved fast. Something either injured it or scared it away. With a deep sigh, she practically gave in hopes of looking for the other. Twisting her head back around, she placed it on the branch again, trying to come up with yet another idea to get herself up.
Some words were spoken, however, and her head was faced at the ground once more, looking for the source of the voice. It was extremely quiet, as if it was spoken to themselves, and it sounded rather feminine. My favorite kind of wolf. She thought to herself, peering all over for the lady. The purple pelt practically gave her away in a moment.
A sly grin slid up her face, her eyes narrowing as she squinted at the figure so far beneath her. She couldn’t tell much from here, other than the wolf was predominantly a lavender color with some sort of spots covering. Maybe perhaps some white on the bottom of her chin and neck? Whatever, that had nothing to do with the circumstances, and she wanted this wolf up here to help her now. They could finish the adventure together!
Then, before she could think of what to say to the girl, she heard her calling out to her and suggesting some help. Her tail wagged ferociously, and she got quite excited. ”Yes, some help would be greatly appreciated!” She shouted back, her tail still wagging although it was making her lose some of her grip. ”If you could just scramble up to that branch over there, and just follow my claw marks on the branches, you can get to wear I am now!” She instructed, her head arching backwards and attempting to point her snout in the direction of the lowest branch. Rosalina stood there, staring up at the tree, watching the wolf's every movement. She seemed to be twisting her head, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from. After a few minutes, the wolf laid her eyes on her. She tilted her head slightly at the wolf's expression. She couldn't see the other's eyes, however.
She watched as the wolf smiled, and she took that as a friendly gesture. She smiled back, and waved her tail slightly. When she heard the other call out to her, she knew she was a female. Her body was wiggling in what she saw as excitement. Rose decided she was just glad someone was here to help. But she was nervous about climbing a tree, saying she's never done it before. "I'll do my best..." she called back nervously.
She looked at the tree the dangling female had pointed out, and saw the claw marks at once. Nervously, she scrambled her way to the first branch. Then the next, and the next, not once daring to look down. When she looked at how far away from the other she was, she knew she had to hurry. Her heart was racing, for fear of falling, and fear the female would fall before she got there.
Adrenaline ran through her veins, and her heart beat faster and faster as she climbed into what seemed the clouds. One branch after another, she scrambled. Although it was a workout, she didn't run out of breath, or stop once. Swimming all the time stretched her lungs, making them capable of breathing in oxygen in even the deepest parts of any water source. Her legs were powerful as well, and it certainly helped now. Without a good set of lungs and strong legs, her balance would have thrown her down by now.
Finally, after what seemed forever, Rosalina reached the branch across from the she-wolf. She swallowed, and dared to look down. What she saw made her dizzy, and she laid on the branch before she plummeted to a certain death. She looked at the wolf, wide-eyed and frightened, but she knew she had to help. She closed her eyes, took in a few deep breaths, and stood. Opening her eyes, she measured the distance, ran to the end of the branch, and launched herself.
Concentrating on nothing else but where she was putting her paws, Rosalina's front paws hit the branch, and she was relieved that her back paws did as well. When she was fully on the branch, she laid on it, like she did the other, so she didn't fall off. She took another deep breath, and slowly stood. Then, slowly, turned, and reached down to help heave the other wolf up onto the branch.

She accepted the responsibility of getting Moon up onto her branch, and this only made the female happy. Without wiggling her body too quickly, she wagged her tail with glee, showing her great appreciation of the offer. This was certainly the last thing she expected to come around; especially since it was a complete stranger that was going to assist.
She kept her silver eyes on the small body of the velvet female until she could no longer twist her head to watch. The other was almost directly behind her, and so she had nothing to keep her attention while she hung lifelessly on the tree. She moved her head back into place, staring forward again into the empty and yellow forest. Entirely devoid, she rested her muzzle back on the limb once more.
From behind her, she could hear the other wolf making movement in her direction. She kept her body from moving and her heartbeat lowered so that she could listen much more precisely; trying to identify where she was and how long it would take her to reach Moon. Her jumping and climbing was not necessarily a quiet task, but she did it quite vigorously; moving up and up until she was practically to the same wood piece that the blue wolf was hanging.
When she was behind her, Moonbeam lifted her head up and tried to crank it to the side to get somewhat of a view of her. The movement had stopped, though, and she had a problem figuring out why the wolf was no longer in motion. From the very side of her peripheral vision, she could see that the female was laying down on the branch behind her. What was this, some sort of torturing act? Why was she not getting up and across the space in between the two branches to help her up? With youthful mistakes, she jumped to a conclusion that this wolf did not really want to help her up, and instantly she got frustrated.
However, her hopes turned around as soon as she saw the other suddenly stand and a burst of speed launch her across her branch and through the air. She landed much more precisely than Moon had, with all four paws on the wooden structure. She laid down almost instantly at that point, but didn’t do that for long as she stood and scooted to where she was hanging. Tail wagging, she watched with excitement as her muzzle was pointed down in her direction.
It was then that she felt her teeth gripping the back of her neck, and instantly she began to push with her front legs. Her back legs swung at the air, kicking at it whilst at the same time searching for a strong place to plant themselves. It didn’t take long for her to pull herself up to her belly where she could comfortably rest on the tree. She felt the teeth lose their hold, and her heart finally began to beat; her lungs taking in the air they were striving for.
Thank god, she thought to herself, smiling as her eyes closed and she relaxed for a moment. “Thanks so much, stranger.” She spoke through heaving inhales, her eyes still closed and her body lax on the tree. Regardless of how tired her body was, she was nevertheless as determined to climb the rest of the tree to get a bird’s-eye-view. She just needed a moment to regain herself... [/scrolly]

Rosalina heaved the other wolf upwards, and with her help, managed to pull her up onto the branch. As soon as she did, she backed up on the thickest part of the branch and lyed on her belly. She looked down, and her eyes widened at the same moment. Her ears pinned to the back of her head, and she let out a whimper. Terror seized her, and she almost didn't hear the thanks she was given. She slowly dragged her gaze towards the other, and stuttered a "You're welcome. Anytime..." She gulped, and tried not to look down.
Instead of looking down, she studied the other. Measuring the look in her eyes, Rose could tell she wasn't done. She wanted to climb higher. Her face scrunched up with disbelief, but deep inside, she secretly admired her bravery and determination. She took a deep breath, and stood up. Her legs were shaky, but she managed to keep her balance on the branch. "By the way, my name is Rosalina. But you can call me Rose. You are very brave, you know..." She looked down at her paws, feeling shy that she complimented this wolf.
She looked up again, and slowly putting one paw in front of the other, slowly walked up to the other wolf. She forced herself to look up as she creeped forward. After a minute, she reached the she-wolf. She stretched her neck forward, only a few inches from her, and took in a deep breath. She closed her eyes, trying to figure out where this wolf came from. She stretched forward a bit more, trying to figure it out. Not knowing what she was doing anymore, she licked the cheek of the other wolf, and suddenly her eyes flew open. She hobbled backwards, and lay herself once more flat on the branch. "I'm...so sorry...I don't...I'm sorry..." she stuttered, shocked with her actions. What was she thinking?
She looked down to the ground, her thoughts racing. She didn't know what just happened. She was curious about this wolf, but she never have done anything like that before. Never been so curious about any other creature...She felt shame burn in her cheeks, and she just knew she offended her. Sighing, she looked for a way down. Seeing a branch that looked easy to reach, she slowly crawled forward and started to slink down. She landed on the branch beneath the one she was on, and then steadied herself before she lyed flat on her stomach again and looked for another way down.

Her head had moved none while on the branch, and her body still lay just as limp. She could feel her muscles aching slightly, especially her abdomen and her forelegs, from holding her up for so long. They would recover soon, as she would either completely ignore the ache, or they would feel better in no time. She was not one to be held back by her bodies simple inhibitions; as it was just as strongly will-powered as she was. This tree needed to be conquered, and that task was not about to be pass off because she was a little tired.
As the stranger spoke, Moonbeam’s eyes opened, looking down and over at her. She was scared. This was not something that any average wolf would do with their spare time, and apparently that was proven by how nervous the female looked. A smile only spread on her face as she watched the other attempt to cover her fear; be it because she was ashamed or because she just didn’t want to think about it, the blue wolf though this action to be cute. Speaking of cute... gazing over her small and frail body, she wasn’t a bad looker.
Then their eyes caught, and both appeared to be summing the other up. She couldn’t help but grin smugly, feeling very proud that she was there in front of her. What luck that a random wolf would appear, help her, and then stay even longer. Still her eyes watched, as the wolf then got to her feet and took deep breathes. Moon figured it was about time she did the same thing, lifting her paws out from under her and pressing her body into the air. Standing in a straight position, she listening as the wolf introduced herself, as well as complimented her. ”I’m Moonbeam, call me Moon. You’re brave, too, you know. You’re up here, too.” Her words were a lot more confident than the lavender wolf’s, and a lot more chipper, too.
Apprehensive steps began to move toward her, quiet and slow. She stepped up to the blue wolf, and for a second, Moon cocked her head, wondering exactly what this she-wolf was doing. Pausing just in front of her, the lavender female arched her neck out. Head still cocked, the aqua-shaded creature just watched, wondering just what she had been doing. Her nose was close to her face now, her neck arched out toward her. Was she smelling Moon? Perhaps even breathing her in for a moment? And then the warm kiss of a tongue hit the side of her face, and for a second, Moon’s heart paused.
”Woah...” |
She whispered. An apology was shot in her direction in a millisecond, stuttering all over itself. Then the female darted off to the lower branch, away from Moonbeam. Wasting absolutely no time, she chased after her, leaping down to the limb below and next to Rosalina. ”Just where do you think you’re going?” She spoke, sarcasm and a toying touch to her feminine tone. Moving back up to her, she did the same thing, arching her neck and placing her tongue to the other’s cheek. She added her own flare, however, and winked her silver eyes as she did so. ”Now, let’s finish this tree, hmm?”[/scrolly]
