Hot and Cold (Moonbeam)

She was hot on the trail of an intruder, the scent was strong in her nostrils and the knowledge that he was just a few tail-lengths away made her keep going doggedly on. She had expected to run the other wolf into dust but she had underestimated the other. He seemed to have just as much stamina as she, maybe more... Now she was wearing out after having pursued him for nearly a day and a half, fortunately, it finally seemed as if the other wolf was going to leave the territory. She wouldn't stop tailing him till either he did, or she killed him for trespassing... Finally, she realized that the wolf's scent had brought her to the edge of pack territory and over the boundary. With a snort she watched the wolf as he ran as fast as he could, she wouldn't pursue... She'd just watch to see if he'd stay gone. She didn't move at all until he disappeared in the distance, then, with one last snarl for good measure the large female headed back the way she had come. It had been a while since the white she-wolf had ever gotten close to being tired, she naturally had good stamina but now she'd been run to her limit. Pink tongue lolling, she headed in the direction of the lake. She could go there to quench her thirst and ease the ache of her lungs. The water would be nice and cold which was perfect for her... Soon the lake was within sight and the wolfess speeded her walk to a trot, stopping only when she was at the edge of the lake. Her thick neck lowered as she bent her head to examine the frozen surface. It shouldn't be too hard to break, not with her large forelegs and brute strength. So she reared on her hindlegs then dropped down powerfully, instantly breaking a hole in the icey barrier. With a growl she scrambled backwards as the water soaked her forelegs and paws. She raised first one paw up to lick it clean of the freezing water then she raised the other and did the same. Once done getting water out of her rather thick pelt she turned her attention to the cooling substance before her. A self-satisfied wag of her three tails was what she allowed herself before dipping her muzzle down to drink. It chilled her to the very core, refreshing her after the long run. The wolfess lifted her head after quenching her thirst and sighed happily, that hit the spot. With a yawn she sat down on her haunches and licked her fluffy chest. Removing any traces of water, her thick fur wouldn't protect her catching frostbite from the cold air if it penetrated her fur and got to the skin.

She had made it to nearly the center, and so she was less-likely on falling in, but she still moved slowly and calculated her each and every movement. Falling into this frozen lake would certainly mean death for the blue wolf, as no one would be able to get out and save her. She would either freeze to death, or even drown, in a matter of minutes; no survival would be possible. But did that keep her from crossing this lake? Not at all. She was unafraid; courageous and determined to pass it completely. She had started earlier in the morning, right when the sun had risen to wake the pack of wolves. She was making it a habit now to get up when the sun did, so that she could have a full day of exploration. Normally she would sleep through it until at least mid noon, wasting a lot of her daylight snoozing the hours away. But now, she found the brisk clean air and the early light something to enjoy. It was pleasant for her to be up, and she enjoyed every waking second of it. Although, sometimes she did have some troubles pressing her body out of the bed and forcing herself to get up. It was a difficult routine to get used to, but she realized that with every day she did it, it tended to get easier and easier. Perhaps it would even become natural for her to get up at the break of sunrise. A crashing noise from off to her left suddenly caught attention of the femme, and her head jerked in the direction, thinking that perhaps some of the ice had cracked and she was going to fall through. In fact, it had appeared a wolf was drinking from the water, and had needed to break through to get to it. Squinting her eyes, she attempted to see exactly which wolf it had been. No luck, however, as the body was too cream and blended too well with the surroundings. Assuming it was probably Nuha, she began to traverse in the direction of the wolf; looking for a friendly chat. Her steps were quick, and she made sure to steer clear of the very cracks that threatened her life. Since it had been snowing and been a little colder lately, however, the ice held a lot better than it would during earlier times of the year. That was why she chose today to be the day that she explored the middle of the lake. Hearing a little crunch beneath her and feeling the ice cave in just a little bit, she leapt to the side, and nearly jolted down to her target. Slowing her heartbeat, though, she knew quickness was a terrible idea on something that was so unsteady, and she kept a continuous and steady pace. When she was finally near enough to speak, she opened her mouth to say a pleasant hello. Suddenly she had paused, however, and her eyes widened. Feet stopped in their tracks as the familiar face was brought into her attention. Her heart nearly stopped as her stomach had dropped, the pale silver orbs lost in the figure of the three-tailed wolfess. "Sunfeather..?" The word almost didn't escape, the shock that was flying through Moonbeam's body was magnificent. It consumed her, taking over every bit of her frame that she had. It was her sister; one that she had not seen for nearly a year. Coincidence that they were both here? Unsure of what to do, she just stood, lost in the middle of the ice. [/scrolly]

With a happy sigh the large female lifted her head and gave her fur a good shake; making it puff out moreso than normal and making her necklace with the feather at the end come around and get caught on the back of her neck. Irritably she shook her neck to remove it, just then a sound caught her ears. That of cracking ice. Her ears pricked towards the sound before her good eye tried to find the cause of it, and right out in the middle of the ice -heading her way of course- was another wolf. From the distance it was hard to make out who it was as the wolf's fur was such a bright shade that it blended in with the ice. She would just have to wait until the wolf was closer before she could tell who wanted to see her. They couldn't have caught her at a better time for she was in quite a good mood, a nice chase and refreshing drink always put her in one; although a scuffle would have made it even better. As the form neared the white wolf blinked several times and narrowed her eyes, thinking that her good eye was playing tricks on her. However, when the wolfess was right before her it was no doubt who it was... "Sunfeather..?" The large wolf swallowed, her mouth opened once then closed... Finally she was able to speak. "Moonbeam... Is it... really you?"

[/b] She took a step forward, eye sparkling happily and her tails starting to give a wag.

Could it really be her sister? The one she had lost a year ago? Joy and surprise mingled within her belly, slowly it flowed out to the rest of her body. Making her tails wag fiercely and her ears quivered with the strong emotions. She was unsure of what to do... She didn't know whether to run to her sister or to stand and bark her joy out to the heavens! They were reunited! How had this happened? Was it fate or coincidence? Oh! It didn't matter! They were together!

Sunfeather took a quivering step towards Moonbeam, then another, and she kept on until the ice started to sag and she had to stop for fear of cracking the ice with her weight. Their reunion would be very short lived if that happened... "Moonbeam!" She yipped happily. The large female wasn't usually prone to yipping or becoming speechless with emotion, but today was special and she couldn't help but be that way.

So much happiness and joy; excitement and love; filled her small blue-hued frame. It was a shocker to see her sister here, living in the same pack that she had been in. They had been from the same litter, born one right after the other, blessed with the yellow markings right in the middle of their forehead. It was almost looking into the mirror, seeing what you could have been if things had turned out just a little more differently. The professor within her yearned to know what it was like to live a life that was different, but her personality overthrew that and she came out happy with exactly who she was. Heart on pause, breath silently moving in and out of her body, she watched the reactions of the other. When she spoke, Moonbeam recalled back on her voice, recognizing it and noticing the changes it had gone through since they lsat spoke. It took on a more adult tone, maturing over the time that they had been gone. It still held the strong femininity in it, but the smaller female felt that hers was much more ladylike. Although, she was much smaller and probably grew up a little differently from her sister since they had departed from their old home. Then the steps began to get closer, and her beating organ began to speed up; the pace of her heart nearly rocketing. Unsure of what to do, she felt her back paw take a small step backwards, although not in fear, out of the unknowing. She knew she was excited, so why was she retreating away from her sister? It was fear from what she had not been used to, and so, she forced it back to it’s original place. She was a confident wolf, and the fact that she was wimping out so much, it made her look like a coward. Swallowing her fear of the unknown, she prepared mentally to move forward. Her feet had bolted from under her, making her slip at first on the shimmery ice top. She caught her balance in seconds as she flew off of the lake, completely surpassing her sister and leaping onto the snowy ground. Landing with an audible crunch, she paused, turning her body to face the more cream-colored female. With a smile, she began to wag her tail, and though she was hardly emotional, she felt some tears clouding up her silvery gaze. It must have been fate or something that had brought them here; how else would they have run into one another so soon? Turning her body to face the bigger female completely, she took a few apprehensive steps forward. Clearing her throat, and blinking away the small tears that had threatened to leap from her sockets; she began to speak. “Sunfeather...” she began, her voice soft and very motherly. “I can’t believe I’ve run into you here. When did you even hear of the Cerrac wolves?” Though her voice seemed concerned, she had not been. She wanted to know what fate had brought the two together, for it was an odd coincidence that it had happened so soon after Moon’s joining. Albeit, she had still been here for about a month and a half, though that was hardly anything to brag about. [/scrolly]

Sunfeather didn't blame her for being that way. This was a huge shocker, they had been separated for so long... so long... And now, they were here. Together. It seemed unreal, almost like a dream. The smaller wolfess's foot returned to its previous position and Sun watched as she tried to come forward but completely lost her balance. Coming to rest on the snowy ground. Sunfeather turned around to see if she was okay; she was happy to see that the blue female was standing and now facing her direction. Sun's eye started to cloud as tears sprung unbidden to her them, she could feel that even her blind eye was tearing up. With a self-conscious shake of her head she pawed at her eyes, pretending that dirt had collected there instead of tears. When she looked at her sister again the evidence of her joy was gone. No one ever expected Sunfeather to cry... It just wasn't done, the short-tempered female always seemed too tough to show emotion that way. At least that's what most other of the pack wolves thought... “Sunfeather... I can’t believe I’ve run into you here. When did you even hear of the Cerrac wolves?” The creamy-white wolf's ears flicked and then she spoke, remembering the events that had led up to her joining the pack. "I hadn't ever really heard about 'em. I just happened upon their territory about three months ago and nearly got my throat ripped out by a soldier, but I managed to save myself and get accepted here. I've always been a pretty good fighter, y'know, think I impressed everyone."

[/b] That soldier she'd bumped into had been pretty set on killing her but she had been pretty set on not losing the fight, and once she'd found out that the place she was in was pack territory she wasn't about to be sent away.

"But how did you manage to join without me knowin'? I thought I stayed up to date on pack buisiness. When did you come to this pack?"[/b] Sun's voice was curious as well as a bit upset. She wished that she'd known sooner that Moonbeam was here, it would have pleased her to no end to be with her lost sister. However, being with her now was better than never.

Her paw was lifted to her face, wiping around her eyes with it. Though it was rare to see such a hard-headed and somewhat stubborn wolf cry, Moon had grown up with her, and knew very well that it was possible. There was no judgement, nor did she even make a notion about it; instead, she simply grinned, knowing that the reunion was as bittersweet to Sunfeather as it was to her. This brought a little more of the watery droplets into her silver eyes, but they fell away from view within seconds. Crying wasn’t really in her blood, either. As she spoke, Moonbeam positioned her body more toward her, making sure that she was no longer awkwardly looking at her from the side. Her tail slowly wagged as she told the story, a small side smirk placed joyfully on her black lips. It was just like her sister to meander onto pack territory without noticing it right off, but who had the blue wolf been to judge? It took her nearly two hours before she stumbled onto what was now her home. It appeared that she even held some sort of pride over how she had been let in; as if everybody was somehow better-lived with her around. Moon knew that her life was going to pick up, at least, knowing that she had kin here. “Well I’m glad that the warrior did not end you.” she simply stated, saying it as if it was hardly a real statement. Then questions were directed at her; well, sort of. It seemed like Sun had slightly been questioning herself, but it was obvious that the second was directed at the blue wolfess. She chuckled lightly, feeling a warm sensation within her belly, entirely pleased with the personality of her sister. Her attitude was a lot more mature, but she still held that sort of ‘I’m really important’ air about her. No lie, that was a little exaggerated, though it did seem she felt she was of high significance here. Wait... did that mean that she held a rank? Perhaps she was more important in the roles of the pack, and somehow Moonbeam had completely skipped over it! She would not let the other know of her little insecurities, as she stressed on, still grinning and tail wagging when she spoke. “I joined nearly a month and a half ago, but unlike you I looked for the pack.” She giggled playfully. “I was interested in... Bella’s methods.” Unable to help herself, she put a tiny bit too much emphasis on the name of her leader. Immediately she realized this, but pushed on. Not like she would notice it, anyway. She had never chosen to tell her family what she was into, looking at it like it was not a problem. It was hard to tell your mother and father (who had chosen the obvious path of male/female) that you were not the same as they were. So, playing it cool, she always kept it a secret. [/scrolly]
